RED BANK – The Monmouth County Historical Association’s Historically Speaking Lecture Series will feature the early history of the Brooklyn Dodgers and their connection with Monmouth County on Wednesday, September 16, at 7 p.m. at the Red Bank Public Library (84 W. Front St.).
Bog Iron and Baseball is the story of the Brooklyn Bridegrooms baseball team and its owner in 1898. Russ McIver, Sports Guild Master will tell the story of the Bridegrooms’ spring training at Allaire and how the owner’s death left the team in turmoil. He will speak on personalities in the baseball world at that time and describe the team’s connection with the Jersey Shore as well as a comparison with what is happening in the baseball world today.
McIver will also speak on the vintage teams that continue to play in New Jersey today, wearing the uniforms and following the rules of the sport in earlier eras.
This program is free to the public and is co-sponsored by the Monmouth County Historical Association and the Reb Bank Public Library.
