ATLANTIC HIGHLANDS — Charles “Chuck” Lero, the local Chamber of Commerce president, has been chosen to run on the Democratic ticket for Borough Council in the Nov. 3 General Election.

He replaces Councilman Robert Sutton, who has withdrawn for personal reasons.  Lero joins mayoral candidate Rhonda “Randi” LeGrice, the Democratic municipal chairman, and Councilman Roy Dellosso, who is seeking re-election. Mr. Lero has be​e​n endorsed by the Democratic municipal committee.

​Chuck Lero​ is well known in the community as the ​president of the ​Chamber​ of Commerce​, which sponsors the summer Friday Farmers Markets, the annual Classic Car shows, the Taste of Atlantic Highlands and other community events. He is a long-time sponsor of the Atlantic Highlands Arts Council’s annual Film One Fest and supports many non-profit organizations in the community.

Lero is the senior mortgage advisor at the Two River Community Bank in Atlantic Highlands and has been a borough resident since 1995.

“We knew Chuck’s term as Chamber president would be ending this year, and I am so pleased he agreed to fill the vacancy and join the campaign after Councilman Sutton withdrew,” Le Grice said.​  Sutton first served on the Council in the 1980s and then returned to the governing body in 2007.

“​Chuck’s​ experience with the town’s business owners will be an asset as we explore new ways to enhance our business district,” Dellosso said. “​He​ understands the need to work in a bi-partisan atmosphere to achieve progress for our community.” Dellosso​, the Borough Council president, ​is seeking his third, three-year Council term. ​

A 26-year borough resident​, h​e has served as the Democratic municipal chairman, is a former 12-year member of the Atlantic Highlands Board of Education, a local business owner, ​and the former cub​ ​master of Cub Scout Pack 22​. ​He and his wife Joanne are active members of the Atlantic Highlands Historical Society

Le Grice moved to Atlantic Highlands with her husband, Stephen, and son, James, in 1989​. She, is ​also very involved in the Atlantic Highlands community. She has served as a Cub Scout leader and member of the PTO at Atlantic Highlands Elementary School, and the Mothers Club at CBA.

She is a founding member of the Friends of the Atlantic Highlands Library and is currently its vice president. Since 2005 she has facilitated the Book Lovers Discussion Group for the Friends of the Library.

Le Grice has been a member and volunteer for the Atlantic Highlands Arts Council since its inception in 2005. She heads the hospitality committee for its annual FilmOneFest and participates in festival fund-raising events. In the past, LeGrice has helped research Sears Homes for the Atlantic Highlands Historical Society and continues to volunteer as a guide for the annual House tours.
