birth of the jersey shore coverATLANTIC  HIGHLANDS, NJ – On August 19th, the Atlantic Highlands Historical Society will hold its annual porch supper. All are invited to bring a covered dish to share, meet friends and neighbors and explore the landmark Strauss Mansion Museum. The Victorian mansion’s wrap-around porch offers splendid views, cool breezes, and a taste of life in an earlier era. 

Monmouth County Historian Randall Gabrielan will be present to talk about the visionary nineteenth century entrepreneurs, artists, athletes and entertainers who transformed the quiet Jersey Shore to a premier vacation destination. He will share excerpts from his new book new book Birth of the Jersey Shore: The Personalities & Politics that Built America‚Äôs Resort. 

Gabrielanis a member and past executive director of the Monmouth County Historical Commission, has written and lectured extensively on local history, and is a popular speaker on New Jersey and New York topics. 

The Atlantic Highlands Historical Society Porch Supper will be held at the Strauss Mansion, 27 Prospect Circle in Atlantic Highlands, at 6:30 pm on Wednesday, August 19.  It is free and open to the public, and all are invited to bring a dish to share and enjoy good company and an interesting talk., [email protected], 732-291-1861
