MIDDLETOWN, NJ – For the first time in 100 years, it will not be just the current student-athletes at Middletown North and Middletown South facing each other on the gridiron. This August, it will be the alumni of Middletown North and Middletown South that will meet on the gridiron for real full pads football action! For exactly 100 years, spectators have lined up along the fences and in the bleachers to watch football in Middletown. They have witnessed countless classic clashes between the Lions of Middletown North and the Eagles of Middletown South.
Perhaps one of the biggest rivalries in the state of New Jersey, Middletown North and Middletown South play every year on Thanksgiving with the winner enjoying a great Thanksgiving meal as the loser is forced to taste defeat. What better way to celebrate that 100 year football history, than by starting a new tradition that includes so many of the former players that have made the rivalry great throughout the years. That new tradition begins under the lights at 7 PM this August 15th, when Middletown North travels to “The Swamp” to face Middletown South.
The game has been announced with a great deal of excitement from players and fans from both sides of the rivalry. Each team has full rosters and have begun practicing. To make the event and environment even more exciting alumni Cheer-leading squads and Bands from both schools have begun to organize in anticipation of the game.
