ATLANTIC HIGHLANDS, NJ – The Friends of the Atlantic Highlands Library recently presented their annual language and reading awards to graduating students at Atlantic Highlands Elementary School and Mother Theresa Regional School. The award recipients were selected by the Language Arts/Reading teachers at each school. The Friends of the Library began the awards program in 2007. This year’s winners received a personal journal and a $50 gift certificate to the River Road Book Store in Fair Haven.

The Friends of the Library, a 501-3c non-profit organization, was started in 2005 primarily to provide financial assistance for the library to maintain and expand its programs and to promote reading for people of all ages in the community. Whenever possible, the FOL tries to fulfill the “wish-list” of the Library’s staff for items not covered by the Monmouth County Library system. For example, the Friends of the Library recently purchased a new copy machine, thanks to a generous donation by George and Alma Wuesthoff, which replaced the copier the Friends first purchased in 2005 for the Library.
