MIDDLETOWN, NJ – Dan Lieb, an accomplished historical diver, is the featured speaker at the Monday 7 PM June 15 meeting of the Middletown Township Historical Society to be held at the Nature Center at Poricy Park 345 Oak Hill Road, Middletown. His subject is the maritime disaster of the “USCS Robert J. Walker.”

The Walker, a ship that was surveying the Atlantic and Gulf coasts, collided with another vessel on June 21, 1860. She quickly sank of the New Jersey coast with the loss of 20 men. The wreck was discovered in the 1970s, but identified only in 2013. Dan, one of the Society’s most popular regular speakers, will tell the story of the identification and give background on the Walker.

Visitors are welcome and refreshments are served.
