LINCROFT, NJ – The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Monmouth County announced that their honored Dr. Myra Zinke speaker for 2015 will be Harriet Shugarman, founder and executive Director of Climate Mama, at Sunday services 9 and 11 am, on April 26, 2015.

The late Dr. Myra Zinke , a Holmdel internist and psychiatrist, recognized very early  how cultural issues impinged on women’s physical and mental health.  She held a steadfast ethical vision and left a bequest to her Unitarian Universalist congregation for an annual speaker on women’s issues.  Ms. Shugarman, a leader in environmental and economic issues, continues to bring our attention to how women are affected by these concerns.

The congregation will incorporate Earth Day recognition into the April 26 services. Ms. Shugarman’s talk will be on “Women Motivating Climate Hope,” as climate disruption often affects women and children first and most severely.

In addition to her work with Climate Mama, Ms. Shugarman is a speaker, writer, professor, climate leader and “mom”-activist.  She is on the board of the North Jersey Public Policy Network as well as her town’s Environmental Commission and other regional and local environmental committees. She has spent much of her professional life as an economist and policy analyst, including 13 years as a representative at the United Nations for the International Monetary Fund.       The services recognize basic Unitarian Universalist principles such as affirmation of the inherent worth and dignity of each person, and the “interdependent web of all existence.”
