Halfway to goal

BELMAR- Belmar Mayor Matt Doherty today announced that the “Home by Summer” campaign has already raised $104,000 in the 6 weeks since the launch of the fundraising drive in February. Home by Summer is the effort to return the last two families displaced by Superstorm Sandy to their homes in Belmar.  The Keefe and Sperber families sustained significant damage to their homes and have seen the last of the state and federal grant money for Sandy relief programs run out while their home repairs continue to be ongoing and unaffordable.

“We are halfway there.  The response from Belmar residents, businesses and people around the country has been awe inspiring.  Construction on both homes has recommenced and is well on schedule for completion by Summer 2015. Together we will make this happen.” said Mayor Doherty.

Donations can be easily made through PayPal at www.belmar.com.  Donations have been received from individuals living in Texas, California, Illinois and Florida; ranging from $3 – $2,000 on PayPal and a mailed check for $5,000 from someone in Illinois.  All donations have come from those who have been moved by the families stories and motivated to help.

In an event just this past weekend, the Belmar Fishing Club and Beach Music Studios in Belmar raised over $4,000 in a concert featuring Danny White.  Similar fundraising events are planned:
