MIDDLETOWN, NJ – Middletown Township Public Library located at 55 New Monmouth Road is proud to present That’s Amore: The Great Italian-American Songbook with Dave DeLuca on Saturday April 18, beginning at 2:30 pm.
“Featuring such songs as That’s Amore, O Sole Mio, Come Back To Surriento, and Volare, The Great Italian-American Songbook celebrates the ‘Italian decade’ – the years after the Second World War and before the Beatles when Frank Sinatra, Perry Como, Dean Martin, and Tony Bennett, among others, won the hearts of the American public with a smooth, stylish, classy brand of pop. Performed by Dave DeLuca, it demonstrates how a glorious musical tradition became the soundtrack of postwar America and the expression of a sense of style that we still cherish. DeLuca follows the music from the opera houses and piazzas of southern Italy, to the barrooms of the Bronx and Hoboken, to the Copacabana, the Paramount Theatre, and the Vegas Strip. He shows us the hardworking musicians whose voices were to become ubiquitous on jukeboxes and the radio and whose names – some anglicized, some not – have become bywords for Italian American success.”
The free concert will take place in the library’s Community Room. Free tickets available starting April 8th are required. The Middletown Township Library is conveniently located just one-third of a mile east of Route 35 North.
