The Salt of the Earth

In his first film since 2011, internationally renowned director, Wim Wenders, reveals in The Salt of the Earth, the creative process of the undisputed master of giant photojournalism projects, Sebastiao Salgado.
For the past forty years, photographer Salgado has traipsed over nearly every continent capturing humanity’s recent evolution and, in the process, witnessed war, starvation, and much of mankind’s suffering. This time however, Salgado travels the globe in search of unspoiled lands, grandiose landscapes and heretofore unseen wildlife. Wenders shadows Salgado as he embarks on his latest project: a massive photographic tribute to Earth’s beauty.
The Hollywood Reporter said, “Salgado’s enviable joie de vivre — despite or perhaps exactly because he’s been confronted with decades of bottom-of-the-barrel humanity for his work — reveal him to be both a great artist and a man of integrity, even as one wonders what toll the years of non-stop work around the globe has taken on his family.”
The Salt of the Earthwas a special prize winner of the 2014 Cannes Film Festival’s Un Certain Regardcategory, and is making its New Jersey premiere with the gracious support of Tom Bernard and Sony Pictures Classics.

Thank you to SONY Pictures Classics and Atlantic Cinemas for making this special screening possible.
