This crop of Auxiliary Officers are all township residents and graduates of the Middlesex County Basic Auxiliary Police Academy. The course consisted of 167 hours of instruction in various areas, such as: traffic direction and control, crowd control, preservation of evidence, police investigation, ethics, and first aid. The officers also undergo local training in the Middletown Police Auxiliary Field Training Program.
The Middletown Auxiliary Police is a 100% volunteer organization that falls under the direction of the Middletown Police Department. An Auxiliary Police Officer performs general law enforcement functions, which includes street patrol, conducting preliminary police investigations, report writing, traffic control, issuance of citations, and other basic law enforcement functions. They are utilized at special events such as parades, street fairs, and security for community events and during weather and other emergencies. The Police Auxiliary provided 6,225 hours of service in 2014.
