Approximately 50 firefighters from 6 companies of the Middletown Township Fire Department (Brevent Park, Community, Belford Independent, Navesink, Belford Engine, and East Keansburg Fire Companies), under the command of Department Deputy Chief John Gorsegner, responded to the scene.

The first arriving police units reported a “fire somewhere in the building”. A heavy smoke condition was encountered on the first floor in the northwest corner of the building. Crews from the Community and Brevent Park Fire Companies, assisted by the Independent Fire Company searched the area and located a fire in a classroom. The firefighters quickly extinguished the smoldering remains of an electronic white board and ventilated the smoke from the building.
