david prown 120It is often said that men don’t read directions, won’t ask for directions etc. etc. well.. guilty as charged.

I was jonesing for a good movie recently and “American Sniper” was really on my mind.  I knew it wasn’t playing in Monmouth County but I thought, its been out for a few weeks maybe it’s somewhere else in Jersey not so far away.

So, I went onto Moviefone.com and entered American Sniper and the first locations were in Staten Island… then it popped up twice in the Brunswicks. Well that isn’t so far – plus I needed gas (cheap out that way) – perfect!

It listed all the movie times and I found just the right slot and arrived before movie time.  A pretty full lot, but I got an okay space, went inside and there was no line at all!  “Hmmm, that’s odd,” I thought and looked up on the marquee above the ticket both.  No “American Sniper” “Oh oh, not good”.  Next, I asked the nice ticket lady who advised me that American Sniper is not out till 1/16/15.  I stepped aside to revisit that website and decided to read the whole thing.  Yes, it opens January 16, yet why does it show movie times at this theater for American Sniper.

I moved on and chose “Big Eyes” because I’ve been hearing some good buzz about Amy Adams performance. And Christoph Waltz, though he always looks likable, generally plays mean, rotten characters.

I’m not going to say too much about this movie because the previews pretty much told the story. And what it didn’t tell you, you’re pretty much going to figured out what is going to happen.

I was sure this was a true story and the movie confirmed it.  Hollywood is always looking for stories to tell, and those that a bit under the radar are often the most interesting like this one.

Regardless, the actors did a terrific job capturing the characters.  Clearly, one you felt great sympathy/empathy for and the other you felt great dislike for.

Ms. Adams should get some Award nominations.
