ATLANTIC HIGHLANDS — The Rev. Paul F. Rack will mark the baptism of Jesus Christ this Sunday by conducting a “Great Blessing of the Waters” service at 12:30 p.m. at the municipal yacht harbor following the 11 a.m. worship service at the First Presbyterians Church.

The pastor’s sermon at the regular service is entitled the “Lamb of God,” based on John 1:19-34.

“Jesus’ baptism reveals him to be ‘the Lamb of God’ who takes away the sin of the world,” according to Rack. Among the questions to be tackled are: “What does that mean for us? How can Jesus do such a thing? How do we participate in his work of restoring humanity to created goodness and wholeness?”

While on the beach, participants will bless and give thanks to God for the gift of water.

“We recognize how all of life is connected by water, and we recommit ourselves to taking care of God’s creation,” Rack said.
During the 11 a.m. service, the David Nunez-directed adult choir perform “I’ll Fly Away” as its offertory anthem.
