david prown 120I was definitely not jonesing to see “Interstellar” as I’m not really a big special effects guy however I’ve always liked space movies. My son saw it and liked it alot (not surprised) but also movie guru Joan Ellis (joanellis.com) thought I would like it. If Joan says I’ll like it, I go

Yes it was nearly 3 hours long and the special effects were nice but didn’t overly dazzle me. I like the actors and I liked the story being played out both in space and back on earth.

I know I snoozed a few times but not much and overall I enjoyed the movie. However a big “tell” to me that a movie is really special is when the next day or 2 my mind flashes to a scene, to an actor, to a moment. That did not happen to be with “Interstellar”.

It will do fine in the box office, but it won’t blow the hinges off the turnstyles. For some reason “The Right Stuff” worked better for me as a 3 hour space movie than this one. But I’m happy I saw it and doesn’t bother me that the last hour got real confusing what was happening.

At the end of the day, I think a killer team cast carried the film : Michael Caine, Anne Hathaway, Matthew McConaughey, Jessica Chastain, Matt Damon, Johh Lithgow and more. That is a pretty darn impressive line up.

Story regarding earthlings searching outer space for life, natural resources etc. has been played out before. Kind of fun that the launch of this film coincided with a European space craft landing on a comet after a 10 year journey.

I didn’t see the movie on the IMAX screen or even one of the those nice slanting theatres. But I was happy I saw it.
