RED BANK, NJ – Children 5 to 12 years old are invited to Movie Time! at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 11, 2014. Come settle down for a fun, family Christmas movie!  Snacks will be served. This program is free and registration is required.

Children ages 0-5 years old are welcome to join us for a Mommy & Me Music Event on Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at 11:00 a.m.  Music expert, Lisa Hearns, will return to the Children’s Room to lead the program where we will sing, dance, play age appropriate instruments, and enjoy a play-along at the end of the session. Instruments will be provided. Children must be accompanied by a parent or an adult caregiver. This program is free and registration is required. 

Children 3 and up are invited to our Annual Holiday Craft Party in coordination with the Two River Theater One Book One Community promotion. Get creative with several holiday crafts including a Very Hungry Caterpillar ornament, and enjoy games and treats, too.  Attendees will be eligible to win a family, four-pack of tickets to The Very Hungry Caterpillar And Other Eric Carle Favorites, playing at the Two River Theater this holiday season!  This event will be hosted by the Avice Noblett Children’s Room at the Red Bank Public Library on Saturday, December 20, 2014, from 11:00 a.m. to noon.  This program is free and registration is required.

Weekly, the Avice Noblett Children’s Room offers free drop-in Storytimes for young children with a caregiver at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesdays and at 1:30 p.m. on Thursdays.   Join Children’s Services Coordinator Sira Williams for some quick stories, musical activities, and a craft.

Join the next meeting of the Artists’ Workshop for adults at the Red Bank Public Library on Thursday, December 4, 2014, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m.  Artists seeking inspiration, motivation, and time to devote to their work are invited to attend the Artists’ Workshop on the first Thursday of each month.   Red Bank artist Joe Bergholm, our Artist-in-Residence, works with the artists as a group and individually, offering suggestions for subjects as well as guidance in principles of art such as color, composition, and the selection and use of materials.   The Artists’ Workshop is free and no registration is required.  Participants should bring their own drawing and painting materials, although oils are not permitted because of ventilation concerns.

The Library’s featured artist from November through December 2014 is Nancy Mail. A retired New York City school teacher, Nancy began watercolor painting eight years ago as a hobby. She especially enjoys painting scenes of her travels abroad in Paris, Provence, Tuscany and Cinque Terre. Her choice of vibrant,  transparent colors and loose style make her a patrons’ favorite artist.                                                  

The Red Bank Public Library monthly adult book discussion group, Readin’ on the River, will meet on Wednesday, December 17, 2014, from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. This month, the group will have its annual pot-luck holiday party and discuss their favorite books of the year. Please contact the library for information on the current off-site location.          

English as a Second Language classes for adults 18 and over are conducted by the Literacy Volunteers of Monmouth County at the Red Bank Public Library from September through June. The current

10-week session is in progress; the next session will begin January 15, 2015.  Please contact the Literacy Volunteers of Monmouth County at 732-571-0209 or visit their website at for information on ESL classes, volunteer tutor training classes, and English conversation classes throughout Monmouth County.

Free one-hour, one-on-one Computer Tutor classes are available at the Red Bank Public Library.  Learn computer and internet basics from our knowledgeable and patient volunteers. Please call or visit the Reference Desk to register.

The Red Bank Public Library offers free weekly one-hour Yoga for Adults on Fridays from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m.  The class is appropriate for all levels of yoga experience. Please bring your own yoga mat.  Registration is not required.  Participants attend on a first come, first served basis up to a total of twenty people.

The Jersey Inchkins is a club made up of adults who do “very little work.”  Club members build houses, rooms, scenes, and vignettes in miniature, usually on a scale of one inch to one foot. The  Jersey Inchkins meet at the library on the third Wednesday of each month from 1:00 to 3:30 p.m.  The group welcomes new members 18 and older interested in developing their skills in this creative fields.

The Red Bank Senior Center in cooperation with the Red Bank Public Library hosts a book discussion group on the last Monday of each month at the Senior Center at 1:00 p.m. except in December.  Red Bank Borough residents age 60 and over are welcome to join the Center and participate in this or any of its other great programs.  Call them at 732-747-5204 for more information.

The Friends of theRed Bank Public Library meet monthly at 3:00 p.m. on the 2nd Thursday of the month.  Please call the library at 732-842-0690 for the Friends next meeting date and more information about this vibrant group and its activities that support the library. 

The Friends will partner with St. Anthony’s Church on Friday, December 19 when St. Anthony’s presents a musical evening of Vivaldi’s “Gloria” and other classical pieces, as well as a Christmas sing-along.  The cost of tickets for general admission is $15.00 for adults and $10.00 for students and seniors.  Advance tickets will be sold at St. Anthony’s and the Red Bank Public Library. The musical program begins at 7:30 p.m., but come at 7:00 p.m. to get the best seating and to buy a raffle ticket and some delicious baked goods offered by the Friends of the Red Bank Public Library.

The Board of Trustees of the Red Bank Public Library will meet on Thursday, December 18, 2014, at 6:30 p.m. in the library’s meeting room.  These meetings are open to the public.
