Middletown Township, NJ – The Navesink Hook and Ladder Fire Company of the Middletown Township Fire Department has indefinitely suspended volunteer firefighter Sean Powers, 22, of 260 Monmouth Avenue in Middletown in response to charges of Official Misconduct, one count of second degree Conspiracy to Commit Aggravated Arson, one count of second degree Aggravated Arson and one count of third degree Aggravated Assault leveled against him by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office. According to a statement released by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s office Powers is accused, along with another Middletown man, of purposefully setting an abandon barn on fire in the early morning of Saturday October 4, 2014.

The Middletown Township Fire Department was dispatched to a “report of a barn fire at 259 Monmouth Avenue” in the Navesink section of the Township at 5:52 AM on October 4, 2014. The first arriving fire units encountered a single story, masonry barn structure fully engulfed in fire. Responding units from two MTFD fire companies (Navesink and Community fire companies) quickly extinguished the blaze. The structure was completely destroyed.

One firefighter sustained a minor injury and was transported to Riverview Medical center where he was treated and released. Firefighter Powers did not participate in the Fire Department’s response to this incident.
