Water Color Artist Michael Scherfen to Display Varied Portfolio

NAVESINK, NJ  – All Saints’ Memorial Church in Navesink, New Jersey is pleased to announce the upcoming benefit art show and sale to be held in the Parish House of All Saints’ on Saturday, November 1 from noon to 5:00 pm, and on Sunday, November 2nd from 9:00 am until 3:00 pm.  Well-known local water color artist Michael Scherfen is the featured artist for the event, and a portion of the sales of the artwork on display will be donated to All Saints’ in honor of the 150th anniversary of its founding in 1864.  The signature work on display will be his recent water color rendition of All Saints’, now on display at Shrewsbury Boro Hall, and recently exhibited at The Guild of Creative Art in Shrewsbury, New Jersey.

All Saints’ is fortunate to have the full range of Mr. Scherfen’s artwork on display at the show.  His paintings vary from portraits to landscapes and seascapes and he draws inspiration from the intriguing colors and textures that surround him–a colorful character to the scales of a rusting boat.  Born in Portland, Oregon, he began drawing at 9 years of age, and never stopped, only thinking of art as a career after exposure to architecture in a mechanical drawing class in high school.  Mr. Scherfen’s’ formal training came at the Art Institute and the Art Academy in San Francisco, and then at the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles where he obtained his B.A. of Fine Arts.  His work as a 27-year veteran advertising art director in New York City ended in retirement in 2008, which allowed him to begin studying under the renowned watercolor artist, Donald Voorhees, NJWCS.

The art show is open to the public and admission is free, and the church sanctuary will be open for visitors.  Mr. Scherfen will be available both days to offer personal comments on his artwork, and to discuss requests for portraits—family member(s), house, or pets, or to arrange for the sale of any of the artwork on display. Various size prints and cards of All Saints’ Church will be available on both days of the exhibit. Kindly call the church office for more information at (732) 291-0214.
