Dear Editor, While working families are struggling to afford to keep a roof over their children’s heads, the Monmouth County Republican Party is using taxpayer dollars to provide luxury housing for the rich.

Monmouth County Republican Freeholders Lillian Burry and Gary Rich have engaged in blatant nepotism. Well-connected Republicans have been placed on the Monmouth County payroll to a tune of $100,000 per year each and are then permitted to rent county-owned luxury homes for only a few hundred dollars a month, far below both market value and maintenance cost.

Any county owned residential property should be used to provide housing for needy families and individuals such as low-income Sandy victims, the disabled and homeless.

Instead Freeholders Burry and Rich have thrown our needy to the curb and effectively robbed the taxpayer so that their friends can be placed in high-paid jobs and live a life of luxury.

Freeholders Burry and Rich are out of touch with working people. We need new leaders who will truly represent their constituents and put an end to mafia style politics in Monmouth County. Eric Hafner Toms River
