Madison, NJ — Opera at Florham opens its 2014-2015 season Musicale on September 14, 2014 at 3 p.m., featuring a variety of famous opera arias and Broadway music.

The two-hour event will take place at Fairleigh Dickinson University’s College at Florham, in Lenfell Hall. Located inside Hennessy Hall, Lenfell Hall was the drawing room of the Twombly family when they lived in the 100-room mansion.

Funding has been made possible in part by grants from the Morris Arts Council through the New Jersey State Council of the Arts/Department of State, a Partner Agency of the National Endowment for the Arts.

The Musicale will feature singers Mia Pafumi, Rachel Arky, and Dominick Chenes. The will be accompanied by pianist Mary Pinto.

Pafumi has sung at the Sarasota Opera and studied at Montclair State University. She won second prize at Opera at Florham’s 2014 Vocal Competition and an Encouragement Award from the Giulio Gari Foundation Competition in New York City. Arky, who was also a finalist at the Opera at Florham’s 2014 Vocal Competition has recently sung the roles of Carmen in La tragédie de Carmen for Des Moines Metro Opera, Berta in Il barbiere di Siviglia for thePalm Beach Opera, and Martha in Iolanta for the New Opera NYC. Chenes has recently sang the roles of Ghermann in Pique Dame and Riccardo in Un Ballo in Maschera with the Academy of the Vocal Arts, as well as Paolo in Francesca da Rimini with the Russian Opera Workshop

Pinto has worked for Lyric Opera of Chicago’s apprentice Program and accompanied Opera Omaha, Florentine Opera, Augusta Opera, Chicago Opera Theatre. For the last nine years she has been an adjunct professor at Montclair State University and William Paterson University preparing recitals, opera workshops and doing vocal coaching.

The event will consist of 15 songs including Mozart’s Voi che sapete from Le Nozze di Figaro, Handel’s Svegliatevi nel core from Giulio Cesare, and Rodgers’ A wonderful guy from South Pacific. The musical program was selected by music director David Wroe, who is also conductor and music director of the New Jersey Festival Orchestra in Westfield.

Doors open at 2 p.m. and guests are welcome to bring light fare to enjoy before the show. The music begins at 3 p.m., and light refreshments will be served at intermission.
