Handel’s Messiah at Count Basie Theatre with Carols from New CD
RED BANK, NJ – Artistic Director Dr. Ryan Brandau will lead the 2014-15 season of the award-winning Monmouth Civic Chorus, featuring Handel’s beloved Messiah at Red Bank’s historic Count Basie Theatre and the launch of the Chorus’s new Christmas CD. Subscribers for the November, March and May concerts can add Messiah tickets at over 40% savings. Subscribers are guaranteed the best seats and best prices for all concerts.
The Chorus helps celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Monmouth Conservatory of Music with Over There, a joint concert of English music written at the start of World War I. The evening is dedicated to the late Felix Molzer, past director of both the Conservatory and the Chorus. The concert is on Saturday, November 8, 2014, 4:00 pm at the First Presbyterian Church, 255 Harding Road (Tower Hill), Red Bank, New Jersey. Individual tickets are $30 adult, $27 senior, $25 group (10 or more), $5 student.
This year’s traditional holiday performance of Messiah and More ison Sunday, December 7, 2014, at 4:00 p.m. at the Count Basie Theatre, 99 Monmouth Street, Red Bank. The Christmas portion of Handel’s beloved oratorio will be featured, along with favorite carols from the Chorus’s new CD, A Merry Little MCC Christmas. For many music lovers, it won’t be Christmas without it. Individual tickets for premium seating: $45 adult, $40 senior, $35 group (10 or more), $10 student. Lyrical settings of the Vespers prayers by Claudio Monteverdi and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart will be intermingled in Vespers Fusion on Sunday, May 17, 2015, at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, 101 Chelsea Avenue, Long Branch. The Chorus will be accompanied by a Baroque orchestra of authentic period instruments. Individual tickets are $30 adult, $27 senior, $25 group (10 or more), $5 student.
Artistic Director Ryan James Brandau holds the Doctor of Musical Arts and Master of Music degrees from the Yale School of Music, an MPhil in historical musicology from the University of Cambridge (United Kingdom), and a BA in Music from Princeton University. He returned to the New York/New Jersey area from California, where he was the Artistic Director of the Santa Clara Chorale, and the Director of Choral Activities and faculty member at Santa Clara University. Dr. Brandau is the Artistic Director of Princeton Pro Musica and works with the Symphonic Choir at Westminster Choir College of Rider University.
The Monmouth Civic Chorus has been called “close to perfect” (Asbury Park Press), “alive and evocative” (The Star-Ledger) and “exceptional” (Red Bank Green). The Chorus is the proud recipient of the 2008 ASCAP/Chorus America Alice Parker Award, and the 2010 Spinnaker Award for Arts and Culture from the Eastern Monmouth Area Chamber of Commerce.
