RUMSON,NJ – Lynda Rose, President/COO of the Eastern Monmouth Area Chamber of Commerce (EMACC), has been named the recipient of the “2014 Good Scout Award” by the Twin Lights District of Monmouth Council, Boy Scouts of America.

The “Good Scout Award” is presented annually to those who exemplify the ideals of the Boy Scouts of America in their daily lives as outlined by the Boy Scout Oath and Law.  Recipients are chosen for outstanding contributions to Scouting and/or service and leadership to their community.

Rose, a native of Rumson and current resident of Atlantic Highlands, was presented with the award during a reception at the Salt Creek Grille in Rumson, which included more than 130 guests from Monmouth County businesses, family, friends, Scouts and Scouting representatives. The event raised more than $18,000 to support Scouting programs in Monmouth County.  She was the “Community Good Scout” recipient.  Donald R. Antenucci, Sr., a Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 140 in Middletown, was the “Scouter Good Scout” recipient.

Rose has been a driving force in the local community for nearly 30 years. She has been an advocate for local businesses since first joining the EMACC in 1987 and thoroughly enjoys volunteering and “giving back’” to the local community.

Rose humbly accepted the award, and talked about how important it is to make time to volunteer and she also stressed how important it is to support organizations like the Boy Scouts of America.

“Scouting is great opportunity for kids to learn new skills, meet a diverse group of other scouters and have great hands-on experiences doing wholesome activities in the community. Scouting teaches kids to be compassionate and gives them the skills and traits to build good character and become independent and resourceful thinkers,” said Rose who was a Girl Scout and was inducted as an “Honorary Boy Scout” during the Good Scout Reception.

Rose developed her commitment to community service at a young age. Her father was a small business owner and her mom was active in the community. “I remember my dad always being asked to help out local charities and I remember fundraising with my mother going door to door for the United Way.”  A pattern she continued with her own daughters Ingrid and Kimberly. “I took them with me to a lot of volunteer activities like dog walks at Sandy Hook and they happily cooperated when I asked them to donate some of their toys for flood victims.” 

Rose credits strength of character and resourcefulness for her own success. Her own career path was based on a “cold call” to the then Red Bank Retail Trade Board.  She started as a part-time administrator and worked her up to membership director, vice president and now president and chief operating officer of the EMACC. She is also a graduate of the Institute for Organizational Management at the University of Delaware, a prestigious 6 year nationwide course of
studies for chamber and association professionals offered through the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

She truly loves her job. “I love all the people I meet and the diversity of the activities and our constituency.  No two days are ever the same,” said Rose. “So much of my personal and professional life overlap that not a day goes by where I am not doing something through the Chamber that isn’t helping someone else. I get to hook up great organizations with people and businesses that will help them improve and ultimately help our community.”

Volunteering is a way of life for Rose who has worked with numerous charities and non-profit organizations in Monmouth County: Red Bank Rotary, Red Bank Visitors Center, Highlands Business Partnership, Monmouth County Friends of the Parks, Kick Cancer Overboard, Aslan Youth Ministries, Meals on Wheels, Clean Ocean Action, Central Jersey Blood Bank, United Way, Monmouth Council Boy Scouts, Monmouth Players, Count Basie Theatre, Red Bank Toastmasters.

She was recently appointed by the Department of the Interior to serve on the Fort Hancock 21st Century Advisory Committee to preserve and restore historic Fort Hancock at Sandy Hook.  “The history of the area is so amazing and it is in everyone’s backyard.  It is a great natural resource that should be preserved, protected and rebuilt.” 

“Finding time to volunteer is hard, but worth it,” she said. “You have to make time. There are volunteer opportunities in every possible area of interest whether arts, sports or pets. Find your interest and get involved. Volunteering makes you feel good about yourself and you get to meet really interesting people, help others and learn something new. It is extremely rewarding.”

Monmouth Council, BSA has provided Scouting programs and services to the community since 1917.  Currently more than 7,000 young people and more than 3,000 adult volunteers participate in Scouting programs such as Cub Scouts (Boys 1st to 5th grade), Boy Scouts (Boys ages 11 to 17), Venturing/Sea Scouts (Co-ed ages 14-20), Career Exploring (Co-ed ages 14-20).
