ATLANTIC HIGHLANDS — The Rev. Barbara Macfie will be the guest speaker at the 11 a.m. Sunday worship service at the First Presbyterian Church.
She will also administer Holy Communion.
Her sermon is entitled “Viewing Tradition Through the Lens of Scripture.” The message notes various people from the Bible whose lives have changed due to their encounter with God.
“Our encounter is through tradition, reading scripture, participating in the sacraments, which leads us, like the two disciples on the road to Emmaus, to have our own personal encounter with the Lord,” according to Macfie.
The church’s pastor, the Rev. Paul F. Rack, will return to the pulpit next week, May 11.
Macfie is an ordained Presbyterian minister who regularly preaches at the First Presbyterian Church, here. She is also a counselor in private practice in Metuchen.
The adult choir, directed by David Nunez,  will also sing during the service.
Sunday School will follow the children’s sermon.
The 124-year-old handicapped accessible church at Third and East Highland avenues has extra parking in the new municipal lot on Highland avenue.
Child care for four-year-olds and younger continues to be provided during worship services.
