Atlantic Highlands, NJ – On March 11, the Second Story Art Gallery presents painter Clay Fried’s exhibition “Small Town Calling”, with an opening reception for this exhibition on Saturday, March 15, 6-8pm at 78 First Avenue, Atlantic Highlands.  Exhibition runs from March 11 to April 19.

Second Story Art Gallery is proud to be showing the work of painter Clay Fried.  Working in the genre of “plein air”, Fried sees his work not only as a record of the places he lives and visits, but as a metaphor for his place in the world.  Plein air painting is associated primarily with the Barbizon and Impressionist painters of the 19th and early 20th centuries, but has continued to be a popular mode of painting ever since.  Often seen as a provincial activity, Fried challenges our notion of the practice and asks us to reconsider our preconceptions of landscape painting and the act of painting one’s surroundings.

Second Story Art Gallery exhibits artwork that is highly crafted, but also goes beyond the material and speaks to and comments on its experiences in the world. Committed to the local community, Second Story Art Gallery works with other galleries and arts organizations to promote arts and culture in Monmouth County.
