Received a call from Ret. Captain Richard Davis’s daughter yesterday that her father passed away on Monday in his sleep. Captain Davis was a member of this department for 25 years. He started his career as a Patrolman in May 1959, he was promoted to Sergeant in December 1967, work many years as a Detective. He was then promoted to Captain in February 1977. He retired in July 1984 after 25 years of service. Just recently Captain Davis sent me a letter asking for a retirement badge. He enclosed a check for the cost of the badge. I was happy to send him his retirement badge and wallet along with a new ID card that Cindy was able to do with a current photo provided by Captain Davis. When he received his badge and his returned check, he called and thanked us for the badge and you can tell he was crying. He was just showing his daughter his badge that he received prior to his death. She said it meant a lot to him.
