ATLANTIC HIGHLANDS — With just days to go before Christmas, the First Presbyterian Church will mark the last Sunday of Advent this weekend and host its annual Christmas Eve candlelight service on Wednesday evening.

Sunday’s worship service begins at 1 a.m. and while the Christmas Eve service starts at 7 p.m..

Both will be officiated by the church’s new pastor, the Rev. Paul F. Rack.

The text for this Sunday is from Matthew 1:18-25. Rack’s sermon title is “God Is with Us”  while the theme is: Does it matter if Christ was born 2000 years ago if he isn’t born in our hearts today?
Reverend Rack began his role as pastor on Dec. 1. He is also the part-time pastor of the Hope Presbyterian Church in Tinton Falls.

The new minister is a resident of Martinsville in Somerset County and has been an ordained minister for 32 years. He is also the stated clerk of the Presbytery of Elizabeth.

The 113-year-old handicapped-accessible Presbyterian Church is at East Highland and Third Aves. and has extra parking in a new municipal lot next to the East Highland Ave. building housing its office and Christian Education facility.

The church provides child care during all worship services.
