Red Bank, NJ: The Count Basie Theatre and 10-time Grammy award winner, Bobby McFerrin have invited 20 Jazz Arts Academy high school and college students to join Mr. McFerrin and his band for sound check and an intimate Q&A before his show at the Basie on November 7.

“We are so grateful to Mr. McFerrin to share his wisdom, joy of music and his gifts with our up-and-coming musicians,” said Adam Philipson, Count Basie Theatre CEO. “We know he will provide inspiration that corresponds with the shared mission of the theatre and Jazz Academy to bring cultural entertainment and encouragement for arts education.”

Mr. McFerrin is best known for his a cappella hit “Don’t Worry, Be Happy.” His latest album, April’s spirityouall, is praised by by noting, “The riches that make up spirityouall cannot be overestimated.” McFerrin has been touring with his spirityouall band since the album’s release, and says of the live performances, “If I have a mission it’s to make everyone who comes to my concerts leave feeling a heightened sense of freedom to play, sing, enjoy themselves.”
