FREEHOLD, NJ – Dina Curreri Hamwi was recognized by the Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders for her recycling efforts and positive impact on the Holmdel school district, which has gained her state recognition.

“Dina’s determination has produced positive recycling results in the Holmdel school district,” said Deputy Director Serena DiMaso. “Through her volunteer work as a Girl Scout Troop leader, Dina has become a role model to not only the young women in her Troop, but the entire community that benefits from their recycling efforts.”

Dina was selected as the recipient of the Recycling Outstanding Achievement Award by the Department of Environmental Protection and Bureau of Recycling and Planning for the policies and procedures she implemented to help educate the students and residents of Holmdel on how to live a greener life.

Dina and her Girl Scout Troop have organized successful recycling initiatives which include placing new recycling bins in every classroom in the Holmdel schools, running a “Used Sports Uniform” drive which sent gently used sports uniforms and school uniforms to an orphanage in Africa and conducted a “Used Sneaker” drive to collect and recycle sneakers for the Nike “Re-use a Shoe” program.
