There is a bridge on state Highway 35, between Brielle and Point Pleasant that bears the name “Veterans of All Wars Memorial Bridge”. It was brought to my attention by the Office of the Minority in Trenton, that Assemblyman John S. Wisniewski was submitting legislation to change the name of the bridge to honor a man who, while a veteran, was also the head of a construction association. The last name is Briant. Mr. Wisniewski just happens to be the Chairman of the Assembly Transportation Committee.

While I am sure his intentions are noble, why the name change now? The bridge was named back in the fifties and the enabling legislation expired at the end of that legislative session. However, the signage was never removed, so the state signs bearing the aforementioned name is still in view.

I contacted Mr. Wisniewski and-challenged the name-change. He withdrew the bill, but there now seems to be an end around to go ahead with the planned name change.

We need to have every post and county in the affected region to contact Mr. Wisniewski’s office and state clearly and respectfully that we want the name to remain as it is and not change it.

His office phone number is 732-432-8460 and his email is: [email protected].  Let’s flood his office with phone calls and emails!
