At a recent AARP event, NJ DHS Commissioner Jennifer Velez spoke in person and via phone to over 20,000 New Jersey AARP members on a wide range of issues, including those surrounding Medicaid expansion and long term care.

As a member, I was comforted by the Commissioner Velez’s willingness to field these questions and provide frank answers. When she focused on the eligibility expansion of Medicaid and spoke of the efforts given to make that expansion a reality, it gave me comfort in knowing that we are moving forward on that issue. And even though there remains work to be done, we are on the right track. I also found that the information provided on other programs, such as the hotlines and informational phone numbers, were extremely helpful, and I know many New Jersey seniors will take advantage of some of these resources that were previously unknown to them.

I sincerely thank Commissioner Velez for participating in this important event and for her continued commitment to New Jersey’s seniors.
