Keyport, NJ –  The following is the statement of Debbie Mans, NY/NJ Baykeeper on the US EPA’s Release of Grants for Sandy Impacts to Wastewater Facilities:

Today the EPA announced final guidance on $569 million for post-Sandy waste and drinking water grants for New York and New Jersey.  While the states’ funding needs far exceed this, the federal grants are a welcome contribution.  NY/NJ Baykeeper is pleased to see that numerous elements of resiliency are eligible for funding, including green infrastructure, for which we have long advocated.  The Passaic Valley Sewerage Commission and the City of Newark have recently committed to green infrastructure and I hope this funding can be used to further this important work to reduce stormwater pollution, address combined sewer overflows and green our cities.
