Bayshore Family Success Center to Open this Spring at Union Beach Memorial Library

Union Beach, NJ – Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno and representatives from the state Department of Children and Families (DCF) joined local officials at the Union Beach Memorial Library on April 2 to announce that The Community YMCA has received $300,000 in state funding to open the Bayshore Family Success Center to serve local families in need of support services.

The center, part of the state’s extensive network of Family Success Centers, will be housed temporarily at the library until a more permanent location is available in the Union Beach area. Families will be able to gather at the center to receive free resources and support before they find themselves in crisis, said Rhonda Anderson, President & CEO of The Community YMCA.

“As an organization dedicated to strengthening community, we look forward to providing families here in Union Beach and the Bayshore area much-needed support services to assist in the recovery from Hurricane Sandy as well as ongoing opportunities for families to connect and build stronger bonds,” Anderson said.

The Y has been providing families in the Bayshore area a wide of variety of services including community outreach, family and individual counseling, afterschool clubs, childcare, and health and wellness programs for nearly 40 years.

The Bayshore Family Success Center will serve as a “one-stop shop” by offering support and assistance to help families build healthy relationships and stable lives, said George Hunt, Vice President of Counseling & Social Services for The Community YMCA. In addition to Union Beach, the center will serve the communities of Atlantic Highlands, Belford, Highlands, Keansburg, Keyport and Leonardo.

Community volunteers will assist the Y in providing families information and referral services for employment, housing, publicly-funded health insurance programs, life skills training, parent education and family activities.

The center is targeted to open in May at the library, located at 810 Union Avenue, Union Beach, NJ  07735.  Y staff and volunteers will be available Monday through Saturday.
