Mr. Dean:

The column posted Saturday February 16, 2013, in the Atlantic Highlands Herald, erroneously entitled “War on the Boy Scouts” by Woody Zimmerman, was filled with biased inaccuracies. It stated that all gays men are predators and a danger to children, along with making other offensive remarks. These outdated and long disproven stereotypes propagate the kind of hate that is all too prevalent in our society.

There are LGBT families that live in Atlantic Highlands and every other community in this country, which face discrimination everyday. There are gay scouts and former scouts that already face bullying and harassment on a daily basis. How do you think it makes them feel to read this type of biased and unfounded attack in their local newspaper? How do you think these lies reinforce the power of the bullies?

Please consider your responsibility as an editor not to spread hate in your community.
