applegate_cemetaryLeonardo, NJ – The restoration of the historic Applegate Cemetery located on Cedar and Burlington Avenue in Leonardo continues.  Karen Mitschele, Chairman of the Sub-Committee 1242 Cadets and her Girl Scout Troop, along with volunteers, have been restoring this historic cemetery since last spring.

Local tree services Hafnagel, Boylan and Luera Grey have removed unwanted debris, trees and schrubery.  The Sub-Committee would like a fence donated, and Brookdale Community College will be planting a lot of trees in the cemetery.  Ms. Mitschele is looking for hostas to be planted along the corner of Cedar Avenue and Burlington Avenue, going to the end of Cedar Avenue.  Butterflies and humming birds are also set to reside in the historic cemetery, and a walking path is also planned to be put in the cemetery.

Volunteers are always needed to help restore this local historic landmark.
