Boardwalk Construction Ahead of Schedule

BELMAR, NJ _ Today, Mayor Matthew J. Doherty announced that the Belmar Buy a Board Campaign, launched in late November 2012 has surpassed $400,000 raised to help rebuild Belmar’s boardwalk, decimated by Hurricane Sandy.

“We started this effort to allow people to participate in the recovery and rebuilding of our boardwalk, and the response has been overwhelming.  We have received contributions from all over the United States.  Belmar, and the rest of the Jersey Shore, will be back, and it will happen because of the generous people who make up this great country.” Said Mayor Doherty.

In addition to the massive response to the Buy a Board campaign, construction of the boardwalk is progressing ahead of schedule.  Epic Construction has now driven piles to cover just over half of the 1.3 mile long beach.  The boardwalk construction project, award in December, will be complete by April 30, 2013, in plenty of time for the Memorial Day holiday.
