To the Editor:

The New Jersey Legislature just introduced a package of 23 pieces of the most extreme gun control legislation ever proposed, in a state that is already considered to have among the strictest gun laws in the nation. In the wake of the Newtown tragedy, what we need is a meaningful dialogue about how to keep our schools safe, and how to keep guns out of the hands of the mentally ill. What we don’t need are more feel-good laws that are ignored by criminals, won’t stop another tragedy, and will interfere with the right of self-defense.
