Affordable Housing Alliance Now Accepting Energy Assistance Applications

Asbury Park, NJ – As part of its efforts to ensure that qualified customers have access to energy assistance, New Jersey Natural Gas (NJNG) will host the Affordable Housing Alliance (AHA) at its Asbury Park customer service center located at 633 Lake Avenue.

Now through April 30, 2013, the AHA will be at the NJNG Asbury Park office every Friday, from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., meeting with Monmouth County residents, including those of Asbury Park and the surrounding areas, to help them determine which Energy Assistance program best meets their needs and to help with the application process.

Particularly, AHA will resume the responsibilities once held by former Asbury Park Community Action Program agency Checkmate Inc., accepting applications for the state-funded Universal Service Fund and the federally funded Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program. A Spanish- and English-speaking representative will be on hand to help residents work through the application process. Income-eligible households that previously received their recertification from Checkmate are required to complete and submit a new application along with required documentation to the AHA to ensure continuation of energy assistance benefits.

The AHA is also available to meet with clients and accept applications daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at its main office, 59 Broad Street, Eatontown. Currently, the AHA is seeking a permanent location in Asbury Park and Freehold to better serve Monmouth County residents. For additional information, please contact the AHA at 732-389-2204.
