ATLANTIC HIGHLANDS, NJ –  The Atlantic Highlands Front Porch Club hosted its 8th Annual Chilifest on Saturday, October 13 at the Strauss Mansion in Atlantic Highlands. With 50 chilicook-off competitors and 500+ attendees, the Front Porch Club raised over $10,000 to benefit the Atlantic Highlands Arts Council (AHAC) and Film One Fest.


The AHAC increases access to the arts and brings contemporary art and music to Atlantic Highlands and the Bayshore region. Its signature event, Film One Fest, brings animated and live action short-films from all over the world to its annual outdoor film festival in July at the Atlantic Highlands Municipal Harbor.

Allison Tevald of Atlantic Highlands, is the 2012 Chilifest Grand Prize Winner.

Chili cook-off entrants competed for prizes in four categories, including Best in ’Fest, Most Exotic, Vegetarian and People’s Choice. This year’s grand prize winner was Allison Tevald of Atlantic Highlands, beating out second prize winner Jason McCauley, and the third prize winning team of Gail Woods and friends, Melody and Jen. Last year’s winners Neil Effron and Ross DiMiceli won the People’s Choice Award for the second year in a row. Two-time Chilifest champ Dan Thurman won Most Exotic and Heidi Colangelo won for Best Vegetarian.

Chilifest Planning Chair, Charlotte Magee said, “Chilifest is a fun, spirited celebration of family, friends and our unique town of Atlantic Highlands. This year the chili contest was more competitive than ever, the music rocked…and to top it off, the gorgeous fall day gave us a record turnout at the historic Strauss Mansion.

”This year’s judging panel included Carton Brewing co-owner Augie Carton, The Flaky Tart owner Marie Jackson, Partner and Chef Zeet Peabody of Red Bank’s Soul Kitchen, and Atlantic Highlands Mayor Fred Rast.

The crowd enjoyed non-stop live music as many local musicians donated their time and talent, including Chris Morrissey, Mikey B, Jim Siti and Scott Egbert.

Chilifest was made possible through the support of many Atlantic Highlands businesses: the title sponsor of Chilifest 2012 was Intercounty Mortgage Network Corp.
