Some of these events such as the Fireman’s Fair have been around for decades. Other events are newer. The one commonality between these events is that they all take place at the Harbor. The harbor in Atlantic Highlands has become a meeting place for people throughout the Bayshore area to come together and enjoy numerous activities and events.

Starting this Saturday, August 4, 2012 at 7:00 PM, the Good News at the Gazebo concert series at the Atlantic Highlands Gazebo will start.  The concert series is sponsored by Central Baptist Church and introduces local and the larger area artists to the community.  Tonight we start with Hans Soul, a hip-hop artist from Philadelphia, who will bring an upbeat and contemporary sound. He is a returning artist who delighted the audience of young and old last year with his style, music, and sense of humor. Next Saturday, we hope to have a choir made of Haitian college students and teenagers. The choir performs a blend of music in English, French, and Creole. Following that on Saturday the 18th, one of the well-known area artists, Nancy Scharff, and her band will perform. Nancy has performed internationally and will perform a mix of new and well-known praise and worship songs. The last Saturday, August 25, 2012 is the conclusion of the series with Carl and Laurie Gentry. Carl is the front man of The Carl Gentry Band, which performs all over New Jersey, as well as a member of the Holiday Express and Dead-On Live.  Laurie was a member of many local bands. Both performers are members of the music team at Central Baptist Church.

A couple of weeks ago, the FilmOneFest took place. It was a phenomenal sight to walk down by the Gazebo and see so many people. This film festival, a number of years ago was only an idea in the mind of one of the organizers, has become an international event with people from all over the world submitting short films.  This event has placed the little town of Atlantic Highlands on the international map again.

The Firemen’s Fair in July is another major attraction in the area. For a number of nights it is the place to see everybody in town – the young and the old and many other people from the area who come for the fun, the rides and the food. It is also a place to see the many hundred of the volunteers in so many organizations that run exhibits, provide games, and show that community service is alive and well in Atlantic Highlands.

The Good News at the Gazebo is still in its infancy. This is the third year that Central Baptist Church is sponsoring it with the help of other churches in the area.  We hope to continue for many years and that continuation depends on the participation and support of our community.
