Lisa Sherman to perform at Count Basie
Ms Sherman is the epitome of local girl makes good. A Rumson resident who graduated from Rumson Fair Haven High School and in 2009 was inducted to the RFHRHS Hall of Fame., Lisa attended Adelphi University on a dance scholarship. But she opted for work instead of study when given the opportunity to perform at Radio City Music Hall alongside the Radio City Rockettes in addition to other theatrical productions in the world famous landmark venue. From there she took leads, chorus and other roles in a number of theatrical productions, both on and off-Broadway as well as touring companies and Cabaret productions. Some of these roles included Anita in West Side Story, Audry, in Little Shop of Horrors, Becky in “Wanted dead or Alive” and Eva in Evita,
The entertainer chose to complete her original dance/exercise degree and designed a plan to combine her theatrical background with fitness programs based on Kinesiology; functional exercise science. She continued to study, intern, and create educational provider CEC and CEU programs and earned certifications as a Master trainer and presenter through: IDEA, ACSM, ACE, AFFA, and NETWORK Austral-Asia. promoting health and fitness through proper exercise and kinesiology.
A marriage took Lisa to New Zealand where she connected with NIKE international and Prestige Marketing and created a TV network Exercise program called the “Dow Power Hour” which also offered exercise videos, books, apparatus and continuing educational credits.
CRANSTON DEAN BAND
Moving back home to the United States in 1997, the fit and agile Sherman continued to work as a personal and group fitness trainer at her own studio and fitness facilities in the tri-state area. She also picked up where she left off before her South Pacific journey and has been entertaining non-stop ever since. She can be seen performing with Kindred classic rock dance band, the Mike Byrne Orchestra, Jazz Lobsters, the Bob Egan Entertainment group, the Greg Berger band, and as a duo with Vance Villastrigo. She has worked on countless soundtracks with both Noble and Chrysalis records and continues to work with many independent musicians and bands around the tri-state area.
Over the years, this very energetic professional honed her talents, put together a one woman production where she could showcase her musical vocal versatility and gave it the name SONGBIRD. Ms Sherman appears with an eight piece orchestra and four back-up singers belting out a variety of songs that exude energy, excitement and an unexpected musical genre.
Her goal is for SONGBIRD to continue its flight and continue to raise funds for her favorite charities to venues in Atlantic City, New Brunswick, Philadelphia and Connecticut.
But everywhere, Ms Sherman is the first to admit that starring at the Count Basie fulfills a childhood dream. “I spent my childhood afternoons at the Carlton Theater, I saw my first movie, my first live stage show and always knew somehow or another I would end up either on the stage or on the screen, but I would be up there somewhere someday at the Count Basie.” an exuberant and vivacious entertainer laughs,”what kid doesn’t look forward to coming back to the same place, at another time and another level, and performing under the lights to the people from back home?”
