ATLANTIC HIGHLANDS, NJ – The documentary film ‘Searching For Sugar Man’ was a winner at Sundance this year, taking both the World Cinema Audience Award for Best Documentary and the Special Jury Prize for its Celebration of the Artistic Spirit.  It will open in New York and Los Angeles later this summer, but music lovers and film buffs can catch it first in Atlantic Highlands.  It tells the story of Sixto Diaz Rodriguez, the “Dylanesque” rock star who disappeared from the Detroit music scene, only to achieve cult status in apartheid era South Africa. With  a suspenseful and unexpected story, an addictive score and even a surprise ending, Searching for Sugar Man was a hit at Sundance, and at the Tribeca Film Festival.

This special pre-release screening of ‘Searching for Sugar Man’ benefits the Atlantic Highlands Arts Council’s one minute film festival, FilmOneFest 2012, scheduled for Saturday July 21 at the Atlantic Highlands Municipal Harbor.  The Arts Council thanks Tom Bernard of Sony Pictures Classics and Lennie Edwards of Atlantic Cinemas 5 for making this event possible.
