Mayor Frank Nolan wins $1,000 for his charity of choice from New Jersey American Water

Voorhees, NJ – Tourists weren’t the only ones trying their luck last month in Atlantic City. After winning the $1,000 Door Prize from New Jersey American Water, Mayor Frank Nolan from Highlands, NJ also walked away from the Conference of Mayors with a little extra cash to donate to a charity of his choosing. The money will be given to the Kavookjian Field-Highlands Living War Memorial, Inc to help with the upkeep of the athletic field and war memorial.

The field, built in 1950, was named after Mr. Haik Kavookjian, who donated the land to the organization.  The town wanted to build a memorial for veterans of all wars and felt that an athletic field would be the most practical and best use of space. Kavookjian, as well as other donations, allowed the town to make their dream a reality to create the Kavookjian Living War Memorial Field, which is still being used today.

“After 60 years of use, the field is in need of major upgrades,” said Mayor Frank Nolan.  “We are keeping with the organization’s mission to increase awareness of the Kavookjian Living War Memorial Field as well as increase recreational opportunities. On behalf of the Borough of Highlands, I want to thank New Jersey American Water for this generous donation to our town’s war memorial and athletic field.”
