ATLANTIC HIGHLANDS — Pastor Michael Riley’s Sunday sermon at the First Presbyterian Church will be entitled “Loving Those Who Hate You, Hating Those Who Love You” … and it is expected to be filmed by the Asbury Park Press

The message during the 10 a.m. Mother’s Day worship service will retell the story of King David’s wayward, coup-attempting son, Absalom, and David’s reaction to his death.

Riley’s sermon is expected to be filmed by The Press for an At Issue story on preaching and sermons … and the public is invited to attend the service.

The pastor, who is a columnist for The Press, also will continue his “mystery bag” children’s sermon series during which youngsters try to “stump the pastor” by placing personal “treasures” in brown paper bags. The minister then creates a message from the contents of a bag.

Sunday School, to which all youngsters are invited, begins following the children’s sermon.
