RED BANK, NJ – The Red Bank Elks competition for the 40th Annual Elks ―Hoop Shoot”®, the national free throw shooting contest for children ages 8 through 13, will be held at Red Bank Regional High School (101 Ridge Road) on Sunday December 4th at 8:30am. Pre-registration is required and more details can be found at our website, redbankelks.org

Nearly three million students from across the country entered last year’s competition for boys and girls in age categories 8 to 9; 10 to 11; and 12 to 13. Each contestant has 25 shots at the hoop. The boy and girl in each age group with the best scores advance through three more tiers of competition—district, state, and regionals, to qualify for the national finals in Springfield, Massachusetts on April 28, 2012.

Local winners will compete against other contestants in the South Central District’s competition in early January.

Hoop Shoot is one of the most important youth programs in recent years as it provides spirited competition, develops character, and provides the opportunity for youngsters to develop new friendships.

The competition is tough as the national finalists generally average around 90% free throw completion. National winners receive a trophy and their names are inscribed at the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Massachusetts.

The Red Bank Elks Lodge #233 has been supporting its families and community for over 100 years through community service and charitable programs in the areas of youth activities, drug awareness, special needs children/young adults and veterans affairs.

The Red Bank Elks Hoop Shoot program is led by Thomas Van Laarhoven and Pat Thorogood. For more information on the program or the lodge, please contact Melissa Zimmerman, Red Bank Elks Lodge #233 Public Relations Chairperson at 908-420-4979, [email protected] or visit our website at redbankelks.org.
