RED BANK, NJ – The Monmouth Civic Chorus announced the search for its next Artistic Director. Dr. Mark Shapiro concludes his 21-year tenure as Artistic Director and Conductor with the 2011-12 season. “Our new Artistic Director will be one whose passion and artistry, technical proficiency and teaching methods enable us to continue our commitment to excellence as an ensemble and individual singers,” said Gerald Metz, Freehold, chairman of the search committee. 

Based in Red Bank, New Jersey, the Monmouth Civic Chorus has brought the finest in choral music to audiences around the world since 1949. Winner of the Chorus America/ASCAP Alice Parker Award in 2008 for the world premiere performance of Jorge Martin’s Cuban-American concert opera Stronger Than Darkness, the Chorus has appeared by invitation at Carnegie Hall, performed at the PNC Bank Arts Center and with the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra at NJPAC, and sung in majestic European cathedrals including St. Peter’s Basilica. With a reputation for consistently bringing technically polished performances to Monmouth County audiences, the Monmouth Civic Chorus has been called “close to perfect” by the Asbury Park Press.
