HIGHLANDS, NJ – The Highlands Garden Club of Highlands, New Jersey is a non-profit organization with the objectives of encouraging interest in all phases of home gardening and to promote better horticultural practices, civic beauty and the conservation of natural resources in the community.
The club maintains several parks (Cornwall Square, Ederle Park, Huddy Park, Veteran’s Park) and planters in town. In addition, they participate in the Monmouth Museum tree decorating program, local parades, local events and Fall/Spring flower/vegetable sales.
One recent and exciting event was the redesign of a sitting bench at Cornwall Square located on Cornwall Street & Bay Avenue. It began as a solid tan sitting bench and is now a breathtaking free interpretation of Highlands.
Maureen McCrink Gribbroek is a HGC volunteer who also acts as Cornwall Square’s volunteer park chairperson. The bench project was a vision that she shared with her brother who is a talented, local artist.

Michael McCrink is a ‘muralist’ who uses the ‘trompe l’oeil’ technique which can be seen at The Shore Casino in Atlantic Highlands and on the rear wall of Jack’s Music Shop in Red Bank.
He supplied the materials and gave of his time to create the beautiful piece of art. While working on the bench, a local resident joined in and added some finishing touches while his daughter and wife worked in the garden. That is one of the many reasons why by land, air or sea, Highlands is the place to be.
Please stop by and admire Cornwall Square and many of the beautiful parks in Highlands and the neighboring communities.
