Dear Editor;

Completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, the “FAFSA”, is the first step in applying for financial aid for college. High school graduates planning to attend college in September or January and parents new to navigating the college experience can attend free workshops to help them complete their 2011-12 financial aid application on-line. Both student and parent must attend together. The assistance is also open to students enrolling in a school other than Brookdale Community College.

These workshops are offered by Brookdale’s Office of Financial Aid and are scheduled for Saturday, August 13 at the Western Monmouth Branch Campus at Freehold at 3680 Rt 9 South from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon in room 306. A workshop is also scheduled for Wednesday, August 24 from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. in room 112 of Larrison Hall at the Brookdale Lincroft main campus, 765 Newman Springs Road.

Students and their parent must bring their 2010 federal tax returns and any other 2010 income documentation such as assets, child support or social security.

As a recipient of the New Jersey College Access Challenge Grant for 2011, Brookdale’s Office of Financial Aid, we look forward to helping students and their parents.
