MIDDLETOWN, NJ – A single vehicle accident on the Garden State Parkway claimed three lives this morning.


State police responded to a call at 5:08 a.m. to a motor vehicle accident at mile marker 112.6 on the north-bound express lane.  Seven passengers were traveling in a 2003 grey Ford Explorer when the vehicle veered to the right and struck a guard rail.  The vehicle flipped at least twice, ejecting three male and two female passengers.  The three ejected male passengers were pronounced dead at the scene.   The driver, the right front seat passenger, both males and two female passengers ejected from the vehicle suffered serious injuries and were take to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, were they are listed in critical condition, according to State police spokesmen SFC Julian Castellanos.

The express lane on the parkway is closed from the Asbury tolls to Exit 114.  Vehicles travelling north on the local lanes are detoured at exit 105.

Police expect to complete their on-scene investigation by about 11:00 a.m. and the lanes will then be reopened.
