ATLANTIC HIGHLANDS, NJ – Readers of all ages will travel the globe this summer as the Atlantic Highlands Library presents “One World, Many Stories” at its Vacation Reading Club. 

Children are invited to explore places from Afghanistan to Zimbawe through stories, crafts, music, dance, and other activities. Kids, start your journey by joining magician Brian Richards, on Thursday, June 16, at 3 p.m., when he presents his World of Magic at Fireman’s Field, 48 Avenue C, Atlantic Highlands! The show will feature comedy, juggling, puppetry, and storytelling.

And on Thursday, June 30, from 1 to 2 p.m., join Yosi Levin, Jersey Shore’s most popular musician for kids, for a free concert! He will present Friends around the World at the Masonic Lodge, 14 East Garfield Avenue, Atlantic Highlands.

Other summer programs include Dan Wilensky’s Children’s Concert on July 14; Youth Stages: Anansi & the Moss Rock on July 28; and coming in August: Incredible India with Amita Tewari; and Paper Moon Puppet Theater: Goldilocks.

Summer Mini Camp, for children 8 years old and up, will begin on, Tuesday, June 28, from 7 to 8 p.m. with Mask-making. We’ll see how masks are used in other cultures. Design and decorate a colorful mask of your own!

How do you define beauty? A perfect smile and straight hair? In America you might think so. But for some, in other parts of the world, it might be a small nose or thick ankles. See what is considered beautiful in three continents in our hands-on Beauty Around the World workshop at the library, on Tuesday evenings, July 12, 19, and 26 from 7 to 8:30 p.m.. Classes will be conducted by Faye Sacco. Check the library for details about other mini-camp offerings.

The 2011 Summer Reading Program is open to young people, preschool through young adult, with programs, drawings, contests, story hours, a reading club, and more. Families are invited to join the Read-to-Me portion of the program.
