Handel’s Israel in Egypt

RED BANK, NJ – The Monmouth Civic Chorus invites singers to a Summer Sing of Israel in Egypt by Georg Frederic Handel. The Sing is on Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at 7:30 p.m. at the air-conditioned Trinity Episcopal Church, 50 White Street, Red Bank. The admission fee of $5 at the door includes refreshments and score loan. Free parking is available across the street.

Israel in Egypt is a little-known oratorio by the composer of the famous Messiah. Based on the Book of Exodus, this stirring work has all the appeal of Baroque music, with the chorus playing a leading role. The Sing includes soloists and piano accompaniment, under the baton of Monmouth Civic Chorus Artistic Director, Dr. Mark Shapiro.

Singers are invited to audition for the 2011-12 season, which features a concert performance of the musical Titanic, Handel’s Messiah paired with spirituals, Verdi’s magnificent Requiem, and music of Brahms. Audition appointments are available on Tuesday evenings beginning in September. Singers may sit in on a rehearsal and get acquainted before they audition. For membership information, call 732-933-9333 or visit www.monmouthcivicchorus.org.
